Today I would like to extend my warmest greetings to the Muslim community observing the holy month of Ramadan.
This past weekend marked the beginning of a month long fast for Muslims which will bring them closer to Allah. Ramadan is a time for reflection, and a time for the community to come together spiritually in prayer. It is also a time when Muslims renew their commitments to improvingthemselves and the world around them by helping neighbours with acts of kindness, compassion, and generosity.
This year, as we continue to navigate the pandemic and its impacts, it is particularly important that we draw lessons from Ramadan and the kindness, compassion, and charity of Muslims. These values have helped us persevere through the past two years, and they will continue to help us as we build back from the pandemic and look forward to a bright and hopeful future.
Ramadan is also an opportunity to celebrate and recognize the incredible contributions and important place of Muslim Canadians in our province. Muslims are a part of what makes Ontario the strong province it is today. However, they continue to be targeted by unacceptable hate crimes and discrimination. While action is being taken at Queen’s Park to combat Islamophobia, it remains critical that we work together to fight against the forces of division. Together, we will make this province a safer place to live, work, raise a family, gather, and worship in harmony.
As the Member of Provincial Parliament for Scarborough Guildwood, I would like to extend a sincere wish for a blessed and peaceful month to you and your loved ones.
