Raising Awareness About the Tragedy of Human Trafficking

  • Community Update

As we observe World Day Against Trafficking in Persons, I would like to highlight the valuable contributions of East Metro Youth Services, Scarborough Women’s Centre, Toronto Police 43 Division, YouthLink and the East Scarborough Boys and Girls Clubs in the fight against human trafficking. These organizations have taken a stand against human trafficking and their efforts have been instrumental in advancing safety and security in my riding of Scarborough-Guildwood and in Toronto.

Trafficking in persons is a tragic issue a grave violation of human rights. It has denied women, youth and children the opportunity to live freely and to achieve their full potential. Exploitation and gender-based violence are persistent problems in human trafficking. We must continue to ensure that the most vulnerable feel safe and secure in Ontario and can break free of any and all forms of exploitation.

As the Member of Provincial Parliament for Scarborough-Guildwood, I would like to thank you for the work that you do to identify and support victims, survivors, family members and all those impacted by human trafficking. We must continue to work to eradicate all occurrences of human trafficking from our society.

Sincerely,
‘Originally Signed’

Mitzie Hunter, MPP
