TORONTO, ON – Today Mitzie Hunter, MPP for Scarborough-Guildwood issued the following statement on Tamil Heritage Month:
“It is with great pleasure that I extend my warmest greetings to the Tamil-Canadian community in Scarborough-Guildwood and across Ontario as we commemorate Tamil Heritage Month. The month of January is an important month in Tamil culture, as we come together with friends and family to celebrate Thai Pongal – the joyous harvest festival dedicated to the Sun.
I have witnessed firsthand the richness and vibrancy of the Tamil-Canadian culture each year at events, celebrations, and through charitable work in the community – all of which are important components of our diverse society. I am inspired by the strong ties of kinship shared between members of the Tamil-Canadian community, and your dedication to improving the lives of your neighbours.
Each year I attend Tamil Fest – Scarborough’s largest street festival. This festival allows all of Scarborough to share in the vibrancy of Tamil culture, art and cuisine, and is part of the multicultural fabric that makes Scarborough such a wonderful place to live.
As the Member of Provincial Parliament for Scarborough-Guildwood, I truly appreciate the numerous contributions by the Tamil-Canadian communities across Ontario. I wish you another year of success.”
