TORONTO, ON – Today Mitzie Hunter, MPP for Scarborough-Guildwood issued the following statement on Kwanzaa:
“Today marks the first day of Kwanzaa, which has been celebrated by African diasporic communities in North America since 1966. It is a time for friends, family, and community members to come together and celebrate Black culture.
“Kwanzaa is also a time to remember the values that are central to the holiday: unity, self-determination, collective work and responsibility, cooperative economics, purpose, creativity, and faith. As we enter a new decade, now is a time to reflect on these principles and carry them with us into the New Year.
“I wish all celebrating a very happy Kwanzaa.”
