MPP Mitzie Hunter’s Remembrance Week Statement

  • Community Update

Dear friends,

This Remembrance Week, we express our deep gratitude to all of the men and women who served, and continue to serve our country, in times of war, conflict, and peace. On Remembrance Day – Friday, November 11th – we pause to reflect on the brave sacrifices of those who never made it home as well as those whose lives have been forever changed by conflict and war.

Millions of Canadians have served in uniform since Confederation, and more than 120,000 made the ultimate sacrifice. With unwavering dedication and bravery, members of our military and police have been defending freedom and democracy – fundamental values that we cherish.

Canadians have also participated in international peacekeeping operations, during which 130 gave their lives. Through these missions, they have worked to protect the rights of others around the world, and to uphold our way of life. These heroes represent the very best of what it means to be Canadian.

So tomorrow, at the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month, people all across Canada will observe two minutes of silence to pay tribute to all who have fallen. Because we have a duty to remember and honour the sacrifices of those who answered the call to serve.

On behalf of the Ontario Liberal Party, I encourage everyone to take some time this Friday to honour Veterans and learn more about their past and current contributions to Canada’s proud military history.

We will never forget.

Sincerely,

Mitzie Hunter
