Today Mitzie Hunter, MPP Scarborough-Guildwood gave the following statement:
“On this day 31 years ago, the lives of 14 women were taken too soon in an act of gender-based violence at École Polytechnique.
This grim milestone serves as a reminder of the dangers that we all face as a result of misogyny and hatred.
It is also a reminder of the need to make investments in STEM education and careers for girls and women. Girls must be provided the opportunities and freedom to be able to enter any field they chose.
My thoughts are with the families of the 14 women who were killed, and with those who were injured and survived.
Hatred, misogyny, and violence against women have no place in our society.”
