Today Mitzie Hunter, MPP Scarborough-Guildwood, responded to the Economic and Fiscal Update.
“This public health and economic crisis requires an urgent response. Today’s plan for our province’s COVID-19 response is a good first step. However, more needs to be done to protect healthcare workers, long term care, and people in this province. We need to ensure that no one falls through the cracks, including students who are home from school and no longer have access to nutrition programs and other in-class supports.”
“The $75 million earmarked for PPE needs to be increased. We are already experiencing shortages across the province, particularly in long term care homes which generally don’t use PPE as frequently as other healthcare settings in normal conditions. We must do everything in our power to protect Ontario’s most vulnerable.”
“Nearly half of Ontario’s household have had their paycheques impacted or completely wiped out as a result of this crisis. Individuals and families need certainty that they can continue to pay their bills and put food on their tables. The Ontario Liberal Party continues to call for the province to match the 10% federal wage subsidy to help tide Ontario workers through this difficult time.”
“Ontario’s economy will weather this storm. Our job right now is to take every possible measure to make sure that people are safe.”
