Mitzie in the Legislature
Mitzie is a member of the Standing Committee on Finance and Economic Affairs which is meeting to consult with various sectors of Ontario’s economy about the impacts of COVID-19 and the recovery ahead. This week, Mitzie heard further testimony from witnesses in Ontario’s construction sector.
The Committee is holding hearings on the Small and Medium Enterprise sector. The deadline for written submissions is 6:00 pm on August 24.

ACORN Beat the Heat Forum
Earlier this week, Mitzie took part in a town hall organized by ACORN to discuss the issue of landlords charging illegal fees for air conditioning units in residential units. If you or someone you know is being charged a fee by a landlord for an air conditioning unit, please contact our office.
Girls Inc. “The Spirit of Girls” Breakfast
Girls Inc is a not-for-profit organization that partners with local schools and organizations to provide programming to promote healthy living, academic success, and life skills for girls. Mitzie joined the Spirit of Girls breakfast to learn about the organization and hear from participants like Bianca, who wants to become a scientist or construction worker when she grows up.

Call for Submissions: Small and Medium Enterprise Consultations
The Standing Committee on Finance and Economic Affairs will meet for the study of the recommendations relating to the Economic and Fiscal Update Act, 2020 and the impacts of the COVID-19 crisis on certain sectors of the economy.
Those who do not wish to make an oral presentation but wish to comment on the Small and Medium Enterprises sector may send a written submission by 6:00 p.m. (EDT) on Monday, August 24, 2020.

Grants for Community Non-Profits
The Ontario government is investing $83 million through the Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF) to provide grants to help eligible non-profit organizations, including food banks, child and youth programs and Royal Canadian Legion branches, recover from COVID-19 and continue the delivery of vital programming in their communities.
