TORONTO – Scarborough—Guildwood MPP and Ontario Liberal Finance Critic, Mitzie Hunter issued the following statement:
“Today, Doug Ford’s Finance Minister acknowledged the looming fourth wave by agreeing to transfer $2.2 billion into the contingency fund. At the same time, he ignored questions about the $10.3 billion that went unspent, said small businesses don’t need a third round of support or the tools to stay open, and did not extend or expand paid sick leave.
If Doug Ford and his government really cared about getting Ontarians through a fourth wave with as little suffering as possible, they would have committed to take action today.
Instead, our students are being sent to unsafe schools because his government wouldn’t invest enough money. Workers are heading into a fourth wave with paid sick leave set to expire in one month. Small business owners are being offered no additional support, nor will they have a standardized provincial vaccination certification system to help them stay open.
Premier Ford has abandoned Ontarians just as our top doctor is ringing alarm bells over a fourth wave.”
