MPP Hunter Hosts Fifth Annual New Year’s Levee

More than 300 residents and friends from Scarborough-Guildwood attended this year’s community event

January 16, 2018

On Saturday, January 13, 2018, Mitzie Hunter, MPP Scarborough-Guildwood, hosted her Fifth Annual New Year’s Levee at the East Scarborough Boys & Girls Club in Scarborough. With more than 300 attendees and many community partners, the event was a tremendous success, bringing out residents and friends from across the neighbourhood.

The Levee was hosted by Scarborough based snowboarding Olympian Katie Tsuyuki and musical medleys were performed by Scarborough based Anna-Maria & Mike Vahe, talented young children from Sistema Toronto and the Eagle Woman Singers. Residents also enjoyed a spectacular dance performance by the Sassoun Dance Ensemble from the Armenian Holy Trinity Church in Scarborough.

Attendees also had the opportunity to contribute to MPP Hunter’s annual book drive and donate books to benefit children in the riding. More than 500 books have been collected from riding residents and local community organizations as part of the Book Drive, which will be added to local community centres and libraries. The Book Drive is part of MPP Hunter’s commitment to improving literacy in Scarborough-Guildwood and in the Kingston-Galloway-Orton Park neighbourhood.

Community members also got to be a part of the giveaways and raffle draw, where prizes were given out.

Speaking at the event, MPP Hunter said, “The New Year’s Levee is a great time to reflect on the year that was and see the Scarborough-Guildwood community come together to celebrate this vibrant neighborhood we all love. Thank you for your continued support and for giving me the opportunity to be your strong voice at Queen’s Park! This New Year, I will continue to partner with residents and local community organizations to build a stronger community and make it the best place to live, work, play and grow old.”
