We are creating more opportunities for children and youth to develop healthy habits for life.
During last spring’s election campaign, we promised the people of Ontario that we would work together to create a school environment that motivates our kids to be active and healthy.
As part of this promise, we set a goal: 60 minutes of physical activity each day for our children.
Today we announced our plan to get there. Ontario is partnering with the Canadian Tire’s Active at School initiative and the Ontario Physical and Health Education Association to establish a province-wide pilot program that will include up to 250 rural and urban schools by 2016.
These pilots will help us determine how to successfully achieve 60 minutes of physical activity for children each day.
Putting our young people on the path to a healthy future will give them the best start in life, so they can achieve their full potential.
